This past Saturday evening, Scott and Janet Maxwell, George Gallie and Ann McDonald, along with Laurie and I, enjoyed a wonderful evening of dining and movie viewing. We had a blast!
Dinner took place at "The Hudson", located near the Hollywood Theater in the "Streets of Southglenn" shopping center. The food was good, the camaraderie was excellent and the prices were reasonable. Sated, we then headed over to watch Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz star in a wonderfully silly but well done spy spoof.
Perhaps, some of us kids never really grow up. Having just spent six months of last year watching the final season of "24", while as an adolescent growing up during the 1960's original James Bond era, something still clicks for me when watching spy films.
Frankly, I thoroughly enjoyed this far fetched adventure and it's sometime impossible story line, which remains the real challenge for producers, directors, actors and distributors. Being entertained enough to overlook and ignore the unbelievable is the most critical necessity for fans supporting the spy spoof genre of movies.
The non-stop intensity, action and acting in this movie simply won't allow enough time for a person to seriously ponder it's many quirks. It's only afterwards, having been thoroughly entertained, that a person has time for such reflection.
In retrospect and from the movies intriguing beginning to its very intense ending, the plot and outcome was wholly Hollywood glitter. Remarkably, Cruise and Diaz shared a very special chemistry that allowed one to overlook the movies absurdities. Their superstar efforts actually made the movie believable and fun. Kudo's to both of them. The film was very well written, expertly timed and the two hero's pulled it off in a very big way! All six of us highly recommend the movie to everyone.
Afterwards, the three couples shared a fun filled nightcap at Turnbull's, before heading home. We're really looking forward to our next Patrol 2 movie night. Hope to see you there!
